A file transfer API on Pro
The website sends a file with no key. An API key is a Pro feature. Free and Creator do not include keys. The developer page is the reference for scopes, idempotency, and webhooks.
- Keys are on Pro, not on free
- The JavaScript client encrypts by default
- A raw upload is plaintext unless you send ciphertext
- Pro includes 5 keys and 3 webhooks
- Team checkout is not open
The website and the API are different doors
Anyone can open the home page and send 6 GB with no account and no key. That path is the product most people mean by a file transfer. The API is for an app you run yourself. You create a key in the dashboard after the account is on Pro and the server has confirmed payment. Free and Creator have no keys, no webhook allowance, and no API rate.
Pro includes 5 keys, 60 requests a minute, 3 webhooks, and 10,000 deliveries a day. Those are the numbers the plan enforces. They are not a burst promise and they are not a team pool. Team checkout is not open, so the keys belong to that Pro account. Studio and Business say Contact sales and are not a way to buy a larger key pack today.
Encryption on the API
The JavaScript client encrypts by default and returns the link key only to the caller. You can turn that off and leave the files encrypted in transit and at rest. A raw API upload stays plaintext unless you send ciphertext and mark the transfer as encrypted. The key is not accepted in the API body. The developer page states the same split, with the request samples.
Files of 8 MB or less get one upload URL. Larger files use multipart upload with 16 MB parts. The client can resume parts already stored. The size cap is still the plan cap: 250 GB on Pro, not an unlimited API bucket. A transfer over the cap is refused.
What the API will not do
It will not open team checkout. It will not place bytes in an EU storage region. It will not certify the service. The service is not yet certified. An independent operator based in India runs the site. Storage is global cloud storage. Webhook bodies leave out file bytes, passwords, and encryption keys. Read the developer page before you depend on a field.
If you only need to send one file to a client, use the website. Build against the API when the transfer has to start inside your own app and the account is already on Pro. Prices are ₹999 or $10.99 monthly or ₹10,499 or $109.99 yearly, excluding GST. A key from a free account is not issued, so do not design a launch that depends on one. Read the developer page for the current scopes before you ship a client.
