What the Dropbox help page stated
On 23 October 2026 the official Dropbox Transfer overview article, marked updated 24 September 2026, stated that Dropbox Transfer is available to all Dropbox users, meaning sending sits inside a Dropbox account while the recipient does not need one. The same article listed transfer size limits by plan: Basic is 2 GB, Family and Plus are 50 GB, Standard, Professional, Education, Essentials, Advanced, and Business are 100 GB, and Business Plus and Enterprise are 250 GB.
That help article stated that Basic, Family, and Plus transfers expire after 7 days, while the higher plans listed can set a custom expiration or default to 30 days. Password protection, logo, and background were described as customization for Standard, Professional, Education, Essentials, Business, Business Plus, Advanced, and Enterprise. The article did not state that Basic includes a download password.
How SendToAnyone handles the same handoff
Here you do not sign in to send a free transfer. You drop up to 6 GB in the browser, choose an expiry from 1 hour to 7 days, and copy the link or email the link. The recipient opens the link in a browser with no account. A download password is available on the free plan as well as paid plans. A password encrypts the files before they leave the browser. It is not in the email. A link without a password keeps the key in the link. We cannot read those files.
When 6 GB is too small, you do not have to move an entire cloud drive to upgrade a single delivery. A Pass costs ₹199 or $2.49 for one 100 GB transfer that lasts 30 days and does not change the account plan. Creator is ₹299 or $3.99 monthly or ₹3,199 or $39.99 yearly for 50 GB per transfer, 200 GB stored, and 30 days. Pro is ₹999 or $10.99 monthly or ₹10,499 or $109.99 yearly for 250 GB per transfer, 1,000 GB stored, and 1 year, after the server confirms payment.
When Dropbox is still the better tool
Use Dropbox when your team already lives inside shared Dropbox folders, needs 180-day post-expiry retention windows on enterprise plans, or wants team seat administration. Here, team checkout is not open, and Studio and Business say Contact sales on the pricing page. There is no desktop sync client and no EU storage region picker.
An independent operator based in India runs SendToAnyone, and the service is not yet certified. Files sit on global cloud storage until the link expires and are then deleted by scheduled cleanup. The upload scan checks the file name and the first few kilobytes before encryption and cannot catch every unwanted file. Files travel over HTTPS.
